Christians call on European countries to contribute to the reconstruction of their regions

     Translation: Hamid Ahmed

In a speech at Georgetown University in the United States this week on the situation of Christians and ethnic minorities in Iraq, Archbishop of the Chaldean Church in Arbil, Archbishop Bashar Wardah, said that "without putting an end to violence and oppression there will be no future for religious pluralism in Iraq or anywhere Another in the Middle East. "
The Archbishop of the Chaldean Church spoke about the current situation of Christians in Iraq and what Muslims and Western leaders should do to help protect religious minorities and rebuild their communities.
"We Christians who have been persecuted with patience and faith for 1,400 years now are facing an existential conflict," Warda said during a speech at the Georgetown University's Center for Religion and Peace at Georgetown University. "It is probably the last conflict we will face in Iraq."
After abandoning an organization that called for more than 125,000 Christians, Warda said: "There is still a seed of faith for them that does not let them leave the land of their forefathers in the plains of Nineveh.
"During one night, an organization was robbed of everything from Christians, leaving them without shelter, shelter, work, property, and without monasteries and churches. They were unable to contribute to any work that would provide dignity for their lives, while liberating the land. "They are affected but remain."
"Few of our numbers are left, some estimate 200,000 or fewer Christians across Iraq, and with fewer, the number of priests is much lower," said Archbishop Erbil.
Warda called on Muslim leaders to recognize that there must be a change in the way they deal with protecting religious minorities.
"It is not enough to say that a preacher does not represent Islam, we want more. I want to encourage Muslim countries to come and take a step forward by helping rebuild Christian villages and Yazidi villages to signal their solidarity with us," Bishop Warda said.
He called on the Iraqi bishop to consolidate the principles of trust and respect in the exchange of religious dialogue between Christians and Muslims, adding that if this hostility continues to Christians there will be no future for Christians in the Middle East.
Warda is working to achieve lasting and durable solutions for the reconstruction and separation of his sect in northern Iraq. He sees hope in the newly opened Catholic University of Erbil with the help of the Italian Church.
"We are ready to open our schools and schools to everyone, even to those who tortured us to be the basis for understanding and mutual respect between us," Warda said, adding that Christian and Muslim students are studying together at the Catholic University of Erbil. There are now 82 students studying in various scientific and humanities, English law and literature, etc. In the future, the university will host nearly 700 students.
As for the crisis facing the Christian minorities in Iraq, Warda said Christians should not remain passive in their activities and call their mouths for the best only. They have a fundamental role to play in society.
Warda said that the Christians in Iraq are calling on political and religious parties in European countries to provide them with material and moral support and assistance while they are rebuilding their places and they are waiting for the answer from them.
