BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq is a Russian ally, Russian Foreign Minister Vladimir Putin said Wednesday, quoting talks between the latter and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Iraq's acquisition of Russian weapons.
"The Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi talked with Russian President Putin on the arming of Iraq weapons from Russia, which may get in 2019 according to the results of the Iraqi elections."
"After Russian President Putin has established his alliance with Iran, he has an alliance with Iraq so that to a certain extent Iraq can be placed under Russian influence," the paper said.
"Russia's alliance with Iran and Iraq via Iran, then Syria, which became a comprehensive military strategic alliance with Russia, then Russia's influence through Hezbollah, which fought its forces alongside the Russian army and the Syrian army in Syria, were on one front in the fight against the Takfiri terrorist forces "He said.
