Today, Monday, security expert, retired Brigadier General Adnan Al-Kanani, gave details of the American role in preventing Iraq from obtaining a Russian air defense system.

Al-Kanani told Al-Maalouma Agency, "The Iraqi air defense is a failure, as the existing radars are simple and worn out and cannot detect air violations."
He added, "The Iraqi border from Turkey to Kirkuk, a distance of 300 km, is free of air defense systems, as evidenced by the fact that Turkey violated the airspace and reached the province with its drone without any military notification of the violation of the airspace, and the radars were unable to detect the plane."
He explained that "former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi sent the head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh al-Fayyadh, to Russia to contract for an air defense system, but America worked to thwart this project and bring down his government." End 25N
