(Reuters) - An armed gunman shot his grandmother and another man on Saturday in a store in Los Angeles, California, where a woman was killed before being arrested, police said.
"A suspect was involved in a family quarrel that led to the shooting of his grandmother and another woman in the area," police sergeant Barry Mungomiri said.
"The suspect fled the scene with his grandmother's car and took the other woman with him," he said, before entering the Trader-Goose shop after a police shooting.
The mayor, Eric Garcetti, said that a woman was killed in the shop and announced her death immediately, adding: "I regret to inform you of the death of someone inside, a woman."
The suspect was holed up in the store with an unknown number of people. "We succeeded in arresting the suspect without incident," the police wrote in a tweet at their expense on Twitter.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump wrote in a tweet that he was "closely watching a possible hostage-taking in Los Angeles."
Devin Field, who witnessed the incident, described a series of tweets: "I was walking when a car hit a column of light in the street in front of the entrance," explaining that the man "went out and started shooting at the police."
He added that the gunman "went to the back door (of the shop) and took hostages."
"The staff quietly infiltrated the doors of escape," he said, adding that "one of the staff talked about the presence of blood everywhere on the ground without knowing the source."
