Direct US President Donald Trump said that tariffs on steel and aluminum will save the industry and contribute to the recovery, with the application of the US tariffs on imports of those minerals from the countries of the world.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Donald Trump said that although people complain about steel prices and are "slightly higher, they will eventually fall."
Trump said the cartoons would protect the industry he described as essential to national security.
The United States announced this year the application of tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from the world by about 25% and 10%, respectively.
Last week, Trump decided to double tariffs on Turkey in tandem with the lira.
Trump explained that the result of all this would be internal competition, "like what we used to in the past when we had steel companies."
China announced today that it was resuming trade talks with Washington in August following a two-month hiatus, a move that renewed hopes of ending the trade dispute between the two countries.
