Guardian: Iran defies the United States by concluding a new agreement with Syria
The Guardian newspaper published Thursday a report entitled "Iran defies the United States to conclude a new agreement with Syria."
The author of the report said that Iran sent a clear message of rejection of US calls to withdraw its forces from Syria by signing a new agreement with the Syrian government.
He added that the new agreement was signed by Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami during his recent visit to Damascus. He added that the details of the agreement were not disclosed in detail, but include Tehran's assistance in rebuilding the Syrian army and military bases and helping to eliminate the mines scattered throughout the country.
He noted that the agreement also includes Syria's support for its re-production of domestic weapons, which has always been the target of Israeli attacks.
He said that Israel and the United States are calling on Iran to withdraw its troops from Syria, adding that US President Donald Trump has offered to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a deal to ensure the withdrawal of US troops from eastern Syria in exchange for Iran to withdraw its troops from the country.
Khatami said before his routine visit to Syria that "the nature of cooperation between Tehran and Damascus is not decided by a third party."
