The Pentagon said any unilateral military action in northern Syria was a matter of deep concern and "unacceptable" after Turkey announced it would launch a new military operation in the area within days to target the Kord fighters.

"Unilateral military action in northeastern Syria, especially with the possibility of US military personnel there or in the vicinity of the region, is a matter of serious concern," Pentagon spokesman Sean Robertson said in a statement. Any acts of this kind are unacceptable to us. "

Robertson said the United States was committed to Turkey's border security but the battle against the Islamic state was not over and Syria's democratic forces remained a "committed partner" in tackling the hardline organization.
