, President Barham Salih stressed, on Thursday, the need for international and regional cooperation to ease regional tensions and support paths of dialogue and convergence.
A presidential statement, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, stated that "the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received today, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, the French ambassador to Iraq, Bruno Hubert."
The statement added, "The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in various fields, pointing to the importance and depth of the growing Iraqi-French relations to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples, as well as the issues of the region."
During the meeting, the President stressed the importance of developing relations with France and the European Union through the understandings concluded, strengthening them in various sectors, and continuing the international effort to combat terrorism.
He pointed out, "The region needs dialogue and convergence to defuse crises, and the need for international and regional cooperation to ease tensions, achieve stability, and strengthen economic and cultural ties."
