Yesterday, Tuesday, the Joint Operations Command confirmed that Iraq is close to ending securing the border with Syria, stressing that the air and intelligence effort contributed to securing areas that were described as weak security areas in Salah al-Din, Kirkuk and Diyala, but it reported that the terrorist organization is still present in complex places. Geographically and relies on internal incubators in financing, armament and information.
Operations spokesman Tahsin al-Khafaji said, "The complete end of terrorist attacks in Iraq must start with controlling the borders by 100%."
Al-Khafaji added, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the terrorist organization is exploiting some loopholes with Syria, in order to infiltrate or obtain external funding."
He pointed out, "The security effort on the borders must come with the intelligence effort, especially in the field of air surveillance, as it has become an important means for modern armies and wars."
Al-Khafaji noted that "these armies use a multi-purpose aircraft that contains cameras and advanced armament, and under the leadership of an intelligent and experienced person who has the ability and ability to absorb areas covered by an entire regiment of ground forces."
He stressed, "The Iraqi forces have begun to activate pre-emptive operations, intelligence and security efforts, and air surveillance in a very large way, with a new strategy and a vision that is different from what it was in the past."
Al-Khafaji explained, "These mechanisms come in accordance with the efforts of the terrorist organization to develop its attacks, and therefore we were able to absorb any danger that might occur."
He continued, "Iraq suffers from areas in northeastern Syria, where the terrorist organization ISIS is present, and it has the capabilities and capabilities that provide it with opportunities to storm the international borders," but he spoke of "a great effort to lead the joint operations in establishing the barrier between the two countries that is more than 320 km long." meters, and we have reached advanced stages, and there is little left to close the file of loopholes with Syria.”
And Al-Khafaji added, "The organization has a presence inside Iraqi territory and has incubators that help it with equipment, financing, armament and information."
He added, "The forces, after they are able to close the border gap, will intensify their efforts inside, which is ongoing and has succeeded in eliminating the first line of the organization, and we have obtained a large amount of information about the terrorists and their whereabouts."
While Al-Khafaji stressed, "ISIS has been subjected to great pressure from our forces in the areas southwest of Kirkuk, Diyala and Salah al-Din," indicating that "the security services are fully fulfilling their duty in those areas and have contributed to providing complete stability."
He stated, "Iraq is cooperating with all countries of the world in terms of combating terrorism, and this cooperation has resulted in the success of the Counter-Terrorism Service in arresting the first line of ISIS."
Al-Khafaji continues, "Some of the arrests took place in operations outside Iraq, which is an important success that counts for the national security system with an organized and complex work."
And he warned, "The Investigation and Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Interior was able to reach important targets in the terrorist organization ISIS, as well as the case for the Counter-Terrorism Service, which carried out qualitative and complex operations that contributed to the arrest or killing of many wanted persons."
Al-Khafaji added, "The terrorist organization is currently located in geographically complex areas that require special effort and specific operations, airdrops or bombing by air, to reach them, and there is great progress in this aspect by our security forces in various formations."
For his part, former member of the Security Committee in the House of Representatives, Abbas Sarout, said in a statement to (Al-Mada), that "the Iraqi security forces succeeded in eliminating ISIS and today they are continuing to chase its remnants."
Sarout added, "The security situation in general is stable in the liberated areas, with some cells that must be confronted by activating the intelligence effort and exchanging information."
He does not find, “a justification for foreign forces to remain in Iraq, and the international coalition can be sought in terms of training and rehabilitation.”
Sarout concluded, "Our military, security and intelligence apparatus has reached an advanced stage and is continuing to progress, and evidence of that is the success it is achieving in hunting down terrorists."
It is noteworthy that the international coalition continues to withdraw from Iraq according to the agreement signed between the two parties, with the hope of ending the military presence early next year, while keeping the tasks related to training and rehabilitation.
