Al-Party is counting on “Saleh’s mistake” to win the presidency
    March 02 2022

The decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding reopening the door for candidacy for the presidency of the Republic again opened the door to controversy and competition.

The two main Kurdish parties supported the decision of the Federal Court regarding reopening the door for candidacy for the presidency of the republic again
On Tuesday, March 1, 2022 , the Federal Court [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that reopening the nomination for the post of President of the Republic was unconstitutional, confirming the possibility of reopening the nomination door again by a decision of the House of Representatives and not from the Presidency of the Council.

The court stressed that there is no "constitutional or legal text that grants the presidency of the House of Representatives the power to reopen the door for candidacy for the post of President of the Republic."
Observers considered that the court "has proven that it is the highest center in political life" in its recent decisions, with "a general consensus on its guarantee of the constitution."
There is no benefit from the decision
Unusually, the competing political parties did not issue positions rejecting the court's recent decision to suggest that the decision was not in their interest. Rather, the two opposing sides praised the decision.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party talks about "more breakthroughs" in the coming period, after the decision described by the party's deputy, Shirwan Al-Dobardani, as "supportive and strong for the parliament."

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said that the Federal Court's decision is a correction to the path of the Parliament's leadership for the second time, for not taking unconstitutional decisions
In light of the competition that the deputy described as “healthy” similar to what happened in 2018, Doberdani believes that the last solution “will not be satisfactory for everyone.”
Likewise, on the other side, the PUK considered the Federal Court's decision as a "correction of the path of the Presidency of Parliament for the second time for not taking unconstitutional decisions."
Union member Mahmoud Khoshnaw says that the court's decision "removes the specter of political interference in the constitutional and legal texts," describing it as "the respectable and constitutional guarantee of the political process," expressing his hope "from all political forces to provide political cover for the work of the Iraqi judiciary."

The union counts on the quorum
Al-Yakti is still counting on the inability of the opposing party (the tripartite alliance) to hold a session to elect the president of the republic due to the requirement that “two-thirds of the members of Parliament” be present.
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Mahmoud Khoshnaw, says that "a front that does not constitute two-thirds of the parliament cannot pass the presidents of the republic and the ministers."

The KDP sees Barham Salih's fortunes for a second term almost over after his republican decree
From the point of view of a member of Al-Yakti, "the current alignment cannot solve the dilemma of electing the president of the republic, and we need another," and therefore, "a quorum of two-thirds of the House of Representatives cannot be achieved without consensus and a new vision."
On the other hand, the Kurdistan Democratic Party is counting on the "longitudinal alliance owning two-thirds of parliament members" to enter the presidential election session "with ease", according to its leader, Mahdi Abdul Karim, who said in an interview with "Ultra Iraq" that "the talk about the failure or failure of the presidential election session." It is very far from the political rivals of the Triple Alliance."

Al-Party is counting on the "drug decree"
The presidential pardon issued by the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, for drug dealers, including the son of the former governor of Najaf, sparked a storm of criticism and popular and official anger before it was withdrawn by another decree.
KDP MP Shirwan Al-Dobardani says that "some of the coordination framework parties and the independents have a reaction" after the decree was issued, and that deputies from what he called the National Stability Alliance had "personal positions" after voting in favor before the drug event.
Al-Dobardani believes in a television interview, followed by "Ultra Iraq", that "Barham Salih's fortunes almost ended after his republican decree," which will be in the interest of Al-Barti, according to his belief.

A member of the Alekte talks about large files on candidates that would infringe public morality if the union announced them
The leader describes Barham Salih's decree as "the mistake of Al-Shater in a million," stressing that it is "a violation of the constitution and not an ordinary mistake."
    Saleh "The Brave"
On the other hand, Mahmoud Khoshnaw, a member of Al-Yakti, sees Barham Salih withdrawing his republican decree with another "courage that we are not accustomed to from Iraqi officials" and the reason for it is "a response to public opinion and not a mistake."
In a television interview, followed by "Ultra Iraq", Khoshnaw pointed out that there are "large files on candidates that may violate public modesty if the union announces them."

And he asserts that "Barham Salih will be president of the Republic of Iraq if the two-thirds quorum of the House of Representatives is completed."
