Today, Tuesday, the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mithaq Abdel Hussein, revealed proposals to support farmers within the framework of the Food Security Law, while announcing the preparation of a complete roadmap to support them.
Al-Hussein said in a press statement, "The decision to open imports is not permanent, but rather is temporary for a period of 90 days, after which the impact of the decision on the markets is studied," noting that "the Ministry of Agriculture is monitoring it, and therefore there are no fears of dumping the importer in the markets."
And regarding the draft food security and development law and how the Ministry of Agriculture deals with it, he stated that “the ministry has prepared a complete road map and several requests to support farmers with seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and vaccines, and submitted to the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, as this map will be on its way to implementation as soon as the emergency support law for food security is approved. He pointed out that "most countries provide relative support to farmers through effective laws, and we expect the issue to be achieved and the percentage of support to increase after the law is passed."
Abdul-Hussein stressed that "the ministry presented a plan that could be guaranteed as a decision in the food security law regarding modern irrigation techniques, as it is supposed to provide modern irrigation systems to farmers at a support rate of 50% of their real prices and in the form of loans," noting that "the Agricultural Bank will launch an initiative for loans that will be An approach to irrigation system prices.
Regarding the summer season plan, he said, "Our plan for the summer season will be discussed after a meeting to be held with the Ministry of Water Resources on April 15, after reviewing the available water storage, and at that we will direct the agricultural plan."
He stressed that "there is a vision for the Ministry of Water Resources to reduce some crops that consume water, but some governorates must strategically rely on those crops."
