Extension of "surprised" that five deputies withdrew from it at night
Shafaq News/ The General Secretariat of the "Extension" movement said today, Monday, that it was "surprised" that five deputies withdrew from it late at night, despite the beginning in the afternoon to withdraw the Secretary-General's hand from his duties.
And on Sunday, five deputies renewed their decision to resign from the "Extension" movement, calling on the movement's Secretary-General, Alaa Al-Rikabi, to provide evidence of the accusations he made.
The deputies who submitted their resignations are "Mohammed Nouri, Daoud Al-Aidan, Nissan Al-Zayer, Kazem Al-Zayer and Nida Al-Kuraiti."
In a statement issued today, by the General Secretariat of the Emtilad Movement, and reported to Shafak News Agency, it is "committed to the charters that the movement approved on itself to follow up on complaints, investigate accusations and apply laws to everyone without exception," explaining that "in implementation of what the members of the Liquidating the movement from any suspicion that is proven against any party affiliated with it to limit attempts to overthrow the popular opposition project represented by the extension movement. It was started yesterday afternoon, Sunday, to withdraw the Secretary-General’s hand from his duties temporarily and during the fact-finding period as an administrative measure to ensure transparency of work as he is a party to the complaint. .
The statement confirmed that "a (fact-finding) committee was formed and named from within the movement's leadership body to look into the complaints addressed to the movement's people," explaining that "it was supposed to begin investigating the deputies as of Monday, but we were surprised by the withdrawal of (five) deputies from the movement in Late at night, despite being informed in the afternoon of the formation of this committee and its intention to gather facts and consider requests and complaints that exist between the Secretary-General and the five members.
The movement's statement expressed regret, saying, "We did not witness any real efforts from them to calm down and interact with this committee," stressing that "this committee will carry out its tasks and we will expose our audience with all the details, and we will not be blamed for blame."
The "Extension" movement emanating from the October protests that toppled the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi is witnessing a series of internal disputes and resignations, against the background of the movement's head, Alaa al-Rikabi, voting to nominate Muhammad al-Halbousi as Speaker of Parliament, where 17 members and leaders of the movement withdrew, last February, This was followed by the resignation of five deputies last week in protest of what they described as "the movement's departure from the principles of October, and the uniqueness of its Secretary-General in the fateful decisions of the movement without referring to its institutions and accusing some of the deputies of treason and corruption without evidence."
Following the tremors that the movement was subjected to, the General Secretariat decided to relieve Alaa Al-Rikabi from the position of Secretary-General, citing it as a "corrective step" in view of the mistakes and confusions in the past period.
This prompted Al-Rikabi to talk that “the extension came as a thorn in the parties’ eyes, and it is natural that they are targeted because they will at one time turn into a (genie) that swallows these parties and removes them from power in a peaceful manner, even if the time is long.”
Al-Rikabi accused unnamed parties of "harnessing all their capabilities to strike at the extension movement on a daily basis and to create public opinion for the purpose of blackmailing the movement."
The extension movement won 9 seats in the Iraqi parliament, and most of its deputies are activists in the protest squares.
