    Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Transport announced that a passenger train collided with a wheel on the (Baghdad-Basra) road, attributing this to the violations of the taboos of railways.

    The ministry said in a statement, "An unfortunate accident occurred after a passenger train coming from Basra towards Baghdad, near the village of Al-Afalijah, collided last night with a large truck (trailer) loaded with sand, as a result of the irregular crossings on the railways."

    The Director General of the Railways, Talib Jawad Kazem Al-Husseini, confirmed, according to the statement, that “the railway areas and their trains are exposed daily to uncivilized negative phenomena by establishing irregular crossings on the company’s lines and properties, and throwing stones at the trains in some places identified by the sub- and main abuse committees despite the constant warning and imposing Fines and warnings in accordance with the law for transgressors," noting that "this phenomenon has taken a turn for the worse and bypassing the taboos of the railways, and it has caused great damage to the smooth flow of trains, in addition to the frequent accidents of goods trains and travelers."

    He added that "the security forces, the competent authorities and local governments, each within the limits of his responsibility or the borders of the governorate, must support the railways and stand with them by issuing strict decisions and imposing the force of law, to provide the necessary protection for the company's property and to secure the security aspect, to ensure the movement of the ascending and descending trains," appealing to "tribal elders and dignitaries." Cities raise public awareness, especially those living near the railway line, of the need to preserve public money in general and railway property in particular, due to its importance in serving the citizens.
