    The Ministry of Commerce has set the tenth of each month as a date for preparing the food basket items, while it indicated that there are good stocks of wheat and foodstuffs sufficient for the end of the current year.
    Yesterday, Sunday, the Minister of Trade, Alaa Al-Jubouri, said in a press conference: “The last years, especially the year 2020, were the quantities of wheat received 5 million and 100 thousand tons,” explaining that “Iraq’s need for wheat annually amounts to 4 million and 500 thousand tons, with 10 shares. distributed per year.
    He added, "The local production for this year 2022 reached two million and 102 thousand tons of wheat yesterday, and these quantities received, if we compare them with expectations, were much better, as a result of the variables," noting that "the stores of the Ministry of Commerce contain sufficient quantities to secure The entire food basket vocabulary until the end of this year.”
    In turn, Director of the General Company for Grain Trade, Muhammad Hanoun, said that the ministry recently distributed the fifth meal of the food basket, and is currently preparing to distribute the sixth.
    He pointed out that the tenth of each month is set for the distribution of the food basket, which consists of seven basic items, but that there may sometimes be a delay in receiving the rice due to its transportation abroad.
    Hanoun pointed out that six ships loaded with rice arrived during the current month, and there are two ships that will soon arrive at the southern ports, indicating that the provision of basket items is carried out in a smooth manner after the approval of the food support law and the monitoring of financial allocations.
    He explained that wheat stores contain two million and 100 thousand tons, and this quantity is sufficient for the end of this year. As for food stores in Baghdad and some provinces, they are filled with foodstuffs, and they can be directly delivered to the agents with ease in the ministry’s transport vehicles.
