Iraq is moving towards enacting a law dealing with municipal waste: it has a great economic benefit
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Environment revealed today, Saturday, the existence of a movement aimed at legislating a law that deals with municipal waste, while confirming this trend, which will have a great economic benefit.
Ministry spokesman Amir Ali Al-Hassoun told Shafaq News Agency, "There is a governmental trend to legislate a law that treats municipal waste, which is one of the types of solid waste, and there is a possibility to invest municipal solid waste, in the issue of waste recycling and obtaining energy from it through incineration. Or through the fermentation processes of some types of food, and here they are producing energy as they produce gas (methane), and this can be used to generate electric power.”
He added that "there is a great economic benefit if the municipal solid waste is invested from money or the provision of electrical energy, and such projects are frankly present and there are several offers under study by some companies specialized in this field."
