On Monday, the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights signed a road map to end impunity for crimes committed against journalists.
The United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and a group of institutions from the Arab world participated in the signing during a regional conference in the Tunisian capital (Tunisia).
The map aims, according to a statement by the Observatory, to “establish new mechanisms to end impunity for crimes committed against journalists, and to strengthen national and international steps and procedures to urge authorities in Arab countries to prosecute and hold perpetrators of crimes against them accountable.”
The map was drawn up on the tenth anniversary of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, designated by the United Nations in 2012.
