    The Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee confirmed that the recent rains in the country increased the area of ​​land covered by the agricultural plan, as well as its contribution to tackling desertification, especially in the border strip areas. 
    The head of the committee, Thaer al-Jubouri, said in a press statement, "The recent rains have increased the percentage of water and moisture in the soil, prompting the ministries of water resources and agriculture to change the agricultural plan by an additional million dunams." 
    He added, "Agriculture in Iraq depends on the permanent rain line, flood irrigation and wells, while the plan was 3 million and 500 thousand dunums, while another million were added to these areas that depend on irrigation on wells." 
    And he indicated that "the recent rains have contributed to the treatment of desertification in the desert areas with distinction, especially the border strip of Iraq, as well as irrigating basic crops such as wheat, which would make Iraq achieve self-sufficiency in this crop."
