    Baghdad today-Baghdad
The meeting of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani with the Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, the US envoy Brett McGurk, who was accompanied by a delegation of energy specialists, led to questions about whether the meeting and what will follow from the visit of an Iraqi delegation to Washington soon, is related to the conclusion of new energy contracts with The American General Electric Company, especially after signing a memorandum of understanding with Germany's Siemens.
The statement of Al-Sudani's office, as well as the US embassy, made it clear that the meeting between Al-Sudani and McGurk was attended by Amos Hochstein, the US Special Coordinator for Infrastructure and Energy Security, in addition to the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romanovsky.
The presence of the American coordinator for energy security, in the meeting, as well as the preparations for the visit of an Iraqi delegation to Washington may be led by the Sudanese, and the coming of all these data days after the visit of the Sudanese to the German capital and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the German Siemens, leads to questions about whether the Iraqi government It will sign a contract with the American General Electric Company, to complete the "balance" series that Iraq has been in force for years, by distributing the energy sector between the American and German companies alike.
The American General Electric Company has controlled a large part of the Iraqi energy sector and its contracts since 2011, according to its official website, which I viewed (Baghdad Today), which indicated that the last contracts it obtained in 2016 were worth $1.4 billion, and it aims to improve the energy sector in Iraq, which is still in great decline.
Al-Sudani had signed last week, during his visit to the German capital, Berlin, a memorandum of understanding with the German company Siemens to improve and develop the energy sector in Iraq.
Perhaps strangely enough, the memorandum of understanding between Siemens and Iraq dates back to 2018, and it was signed in 2019, adding 11 gigawatts of energy. However, the Ministry of Electricity revealed a few days ago that the memorandum of understanding with Siemens will add 6 gigawatts, and thus it is likely that the 5 gigawatts The other watts may be granted to the American General Electric, as a continuation of the "balance" work that Iraq has been doing for years.
