Parliamentary Finance: Efforts to include allocations for the general population census in the 2023 budget

The Finance Committee in the House of Representatives intends to discuss the amounts allocated for the general population and housing census within the 2023 budget and present them to the government.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Planning pointed out the importance of re-counting and numbering the urban and rural areas in all governorates before conducting the census.
Committee member Mustafa Al-Karawi told Al-Sabah: The budget sent to the House of Representatives is limited only to revenues, expenditures, and general expenditure sections and did not contain real data, pointing to the importance of the general population and housing census and its connection to the issue of provincial elections.
He added that the allocations for the general population census were placed in the committee’s accounts to present it to the government, and to know its desire to conduct it, especially since it submitted a budget for three years, so it must be during this period allocations, with a date set for its implementation because it is one of the important issues that achieve social justice for the governorates and change many things. Details if it is conducted, especially after the liberation of the provinces from the occupation of the terrorist gangs of "ISIS", and the displacement of many people from the provinces of Nineveh, Anbar and Salah al-Din to the provinces of the center and south, including those who traveled abroad. Al-Karawi referred to discussing the census procedure in this year's budget, presenting it to the government, and creating a representative atmosphere for it to proceed with it.
For his part, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abd al-Zahra al-Hindawi, told Al-Sabah: The last inventory and numbering operations were in 2009, and thus they are not feasible at the present time.
He explained that recent years have witnessed many changes, so there is a need to re-count and number the rural and urban areas before conducting the general population census, which is scheduled to be completed during the current year according to the directives of the Prime Minister.
