The Ministry of Planning announced today, Sunday, that it has discussed with one of the specialized international companies the mechanisms for implementing the general population census electronically, which is scheduled to be implemented before the end of the current year 2024.[/size]
[size=45]This came during a joint meeting attended by the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry, Azhar Hussein Saleh, the Chairman of the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority, Dhia Awad Kazem, and a number of the Authority’s general directors.[/size]
[size=45]The Ministry said that the meeting witnessed a discussion of work mechanisms for implementing the electronic census, and this comes after the selection of a specialized international company with extensive experience in implementing censuses around the world.[/size]
[size=45]Dhia Awwad Kazem explained that working with the international company will help chart the course of the census work plan, and create the electronic work environment, in addition to evaluating the work environment currently in place at the Statistics Authority, stressing: Timelines have been determined for moving to the second stage, which is the stage of actual work.[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that the last census took place in Iraq was in 1997, which showed that the population of Iraq was about 19 million people in all regions of Iraq except the governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where officials at the time estimated the number of people in the region at about three million citizens.[/size]
