Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, said today, Wednesday, that the general population census has no effect on Article 140.
Al-Baldawi said, in an interview followed by Mawazine News, that “the general population census is an essential pillar in the process of sustainable development.” Construction, distribution of resources and wealth, and knowledge of the population and development situation in the country.”
Al-Baldawi explained, “For three decades, the population census has not been implemented, due to problems and disputes,” noting that “the census scheduled to be conducted next November is purely developmental, far from political interference.”
He stressed that "the census has no effect on Article 140, and its form does not contain nationality or sect, and therefore it is devoid of any political aspect."
The general population census was conducted in Iraq in 1927, 1934, 1947, 1957, 1965, 1977, 1987, and 1997.
