Briar Rashid, a representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan parliamentary bloc, suggested canceling the parliament session to vote on amending the election law.
Representative Briar Rashid said, “The Federal Court canceled a special session to vote on the Cabinet Law on the date of 4-26-2016, as a result of the then Speaker of the Council, Salim al-Jubouri, resorting to the security forces to expel the deputies protesting and objecting to the amendment.”

He explained that “the session of the 27th of this month for voting for the election law is very similar to that session regarding the violations it witnessed, because the Speaker of Parliament prevented the protesting deputies from expressing their opinions and voting on the law,” suggesting that “the Federal Court will cancel the aforementioned session in the event of registration Complaints and lawsuits, and thus canceling the election law.”

Last Monday, the Iraqi parliament voted to amend the election law, despite the objections of independent representatives and several political blocs.
