    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Monday, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq's firm stance towards the cease-fire of the Ukrainian-Russian war, while indicating that Iraq seeks to be part of the solution between the two countries.
Hussein said during a joint press conference with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, that "we welcome the visit of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to Baghdad because it is important and the world is looking at its features, through which we discussed how to continue and strengthen trade relations with Ukraine."
He added, "Iraq supports the cease-fire regarding the Ukrainian-Russian war," stressing that "Iraq seeks to be part of the solution regarding this war."
He pointed out that "Ukraine is an important agricultural and industrial country, and we affirm the continuation of relations with it," noting that "a group of issues related to the region and the dimensions of the economic war were discussed."
For his part, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said, "Our visit to Baghdad reflects the development of relations between the two countries," noting that "Ukraine's relationship with Iraq is developing."
At dawn today, Monday, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, arrived in the capital, Baghdad, on an official visit.
And last Saturday, the Finnish newspaper (Hilinsky Somat) published a report in which it said that the Russian and Ukrainian authorities are now discussing establishing direct peace negotiations through Iraqi mediation that will hold its sessions in Baghdad .
In a report translated by (Baghdad Today), the newspaper said, "Informed sources from within the European Union confirmed that the Ukrainian and Russian sides are trying to work towards peace in Europe through Iraqi mediation, given that Baghdad enjoyed positive relations between the two parties, in addition to being one of the countries that abstained." It refrained from voting to condemn the Russian invasion and did not take a hostile stance towards Ukraine either.
Baghdad's neutrality, according to the report, was one of the reasons that prompted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to contact Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani by phone, during which they discussed "peace plans" with al-Sudani, something confirmed by the official Ukrainian news agency Ukraineska Pravada.
The newspaper indicated that "information about an unannounced visit by a high-ranking Russian official to Baghdad, during which there was talk of holding peace talks with the Ukrainian side in Baghdad," stressing, "according to sources as well, the Ukrainian government is now preparing to implement the first stage of negotiations." By sending a delegation to discuss with the Iraqi security services ways to ensure the safety of delegations that may participate in the peace talks in the capital, Baghdad.
The sources reported by the newspaper confirmed that one of the conditions for negotiation now between the two sides, which was reached through the unannounced visit to the Russian side, is to bring in "Arab and Chinese forces" to work as international peacekeeping forces deployed on the borders of the two countries to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement if reached. during the coming days .
The information reported by the newspaper said that "international parties, including Germany, the United States, France and some European Union countries, are currently aware of the mediation efforts between Ukraine and Russia through Iraq and the "secret" meetings that are currently being held with the Iraqi side in preparation for launching them soon," according to its description .
It is noteworthy that the European Union countries are currently concerned about the escalation of the conflict in Europe with "the deterioration of Ukraine's ability to repel the Russian attack" and Moscow's preparations to launch military operations during the spring that are expected to lead to ending the war in favor of Moscow, according to information revealed by leaked documents from the US Pentagon. Which was mentioned by (Baghdad Today) in a previous report.
