Shafaq News/ Member of the Iraqi Parliament for the Yazidi sect, speaking for the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, Vian Dakhil, acknowledged, on Sunday, the difficulty of creating Sinjar governorate due to a decision by the Iraqi Council of Ministers to convert Tal Afar district into a governorate.
Dakhil stated this during her hosting of the Yazidi Forum for Dialogue, which was held in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

Dakhil said that the Council of Ministers' decision regarding the creation of the Tal Afar governorate is a problem because it is very difficult to convert Sinjar into a governorate due to the close distance between the two districts, which is approximately 60 km.
She added that the Iraqi parliament’s approval of what the Yazidis were subjected to as a genocide is not difficult, adding, however, that the government’s commitments to a law proving what happened is a crime of genocide, and this is what is important.
At the beginning of 2014, the Council of Ministers approved a draft law to create the Tal Afar governorate in the Republic of Iraq and refer it to the House of Representatives based on the provisions of Articles (61 / item first and 80 / item second) of the constitution.
Sinjar district was established in 1934 AD by royal decree. After the Yazidi revolution in 1935 AD, the region was placed under military control at the time.
In 1987 AD, the North region, which was originally formed in 1936 AD, was abolished, and its region was added to Sinjar.
On August 3, 2014, ISIS elements attacked the Sinjar district, west of Nineveh Governorate, killing and injuring a large number of Yazidis, as well as displacing them and destroying their areas.
This is despite the kidnapping of thousands more, mostly Yazidi women and children, the fate of many of whom is still unknown.
There are about 300,000 Yazidis in the camps for the displaced, most of them in the Kurdistan Region, while only more than 20,000 families have returned to the Sinjar district, which has the majority of followers of this sect, after its liberation from the grip of ISIS.
In mid-2014, the extremist organization invaded vast regions and cities estimated at a third of Iraq's area, before the Iraqi forces, backed by the international coalition led by the United States of America, were able to recover it from the grip of the extremist organization in a three-year military operation.
It is noteworthy that, on October 9, 2020, Baghdad and Erbil had reached an agreement to normalize the situation in Sinjar, which provides for joint administration of the judiciary in terms of administrative, security and service aspects, but this agreement has not yet been effectively implemented for political reasons, according to officials in the Kurdistan Region. .
