    This came during the minister's meeting, on Monday, August 14 (2023), with the delegation of the Emirati company, during which a number of projects to be implemented for a number of solar power plants in the governorates of Maysan, Dhi Qar, Anbar and Kirkuk were discussed, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity.

    The Minister of Electricity said that the solar power plants in Iraq, which will be built by the Emirati company Masdar, reflect the government's tendency to diversify and multiply energy sources, as there is a plan to expand renewable energy sources, while reducing dependence on gas and fossil fuels.

    The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, explained that his ministry intends to build solar energy stations in Iraq, out of its commitment to contribute to addressing environmental pollution phenomena and mitigating the global warming crisis.

    The minister pointed out the importance of achieving long partnerships with the Emirati side, whether at the governmental level, or at the investment level, with the private sector and solid companies, pointing out that the step came late, but there is determination and seriousness in its implementation, especially with the Emirati company Masdar, which owns large businesses regionally. and globally in the field of renewable energy.

    The minister also reviewed the possibility of defining a starting and starting point for solar energy projects in Iraq, which has become an important and necessary part, especially after the success achieved by his ministry in the actual steps, by working with Total and Power China companies, and Al-Bilad Group, and its receipt of the allocated lands.

    Eng. Ziyad Ali Fadel continued: "We have invested part of our powers in our capacity as a ministry, and part of the powers of the Ministerial Energy Council and the Council of Ministers, in order to overcome the obstacles of these projects and accelerate them, through strategic decisions."

    The Minister of Electricity identified a set of pivotal points that must be discussed, including:
    * Determining the negotiating and communicating authority, which is the Ministry of Electricity.
    * Determine the time ceilings and prepare minutes and correspondence with the supporting authorities.
    *Achieving a joint meeting between Electricity, the National Investment Authority and the company to review the size of the obligations and determinants.

    * Emirati Masdar in Iraq
    On June 24 of last year 2022, the Ministry of Electricity signed an agreement with the Emirati Masdar Company, aimed at building plants to generate electricity from solar energy in Iraq, according to what the ministry published.

    Under the agreement, the Emirati company is working to implement 4 solar power plants in Iraq with a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts, as part of Baghdad's efforts to develop radical solutions to the electricity crisis, by turning to clean energy sources.

    The source of solar power stations in Iraq with a capacity of 1000 megawatts is adopted as a first stage, in a number of governorates, as the station in Maysan Governorate comes with a capacity of 100 megawatts, the station in Dhi Qar Governorate with a capacity of 450 megawatts, the third in Nineveh Governorate with a capacity of 100 megawatts, and the fourth in Anbar with a capacity of 350 megawatts. MW.

    The new stations are part of the Iraqi government's plan to add about 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy to the national electricity grid by 2025, with the aim of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and reducing emissions.
