Today, Thursday (August 24, 2023), the Parliamentary Integrity Committee confirmed the existence of "high-level" coordination between the ministries and the Integrity Commission to expose the corrupt in state institutions.
Committee member Duraid Jamil Ishou told "Baghdad Today" that "the Integrity Commission is making great efforts in exposing corruption operations, preventing the waste and theft of public money, and exposing the corrupt, and some of these operations are carried out in coordination between ministries and state institutions to expose the corrupt."
Ishua said, "The current government has a real intention to fight corruption, and for this the ministries in this government coordinate greatly and continuously with the Integrity Commission to fight corruption and expose the corrupt, and we in the Parliamentary Integrity Committee support these moves."
It is noteworthy that the estimates of officials regarding the value of what Iraq lost as a result of corruption ranged from 450 to 650 billion dollars after 2003, and they are concentrated in infrastructure projects and those related to the sectors of housing, health, education, roads, bridges, energy and arming the army.
And the Integrity Commission announces, on an almost daily basis, the operations of seizing and exposing corruption files, the latest of which is a large qualitative operation that it announced last Sunday by dismantling a network consisting of officials and affiliates in (5) ministries to forge contracts and impersonate qualifications. “The head of the network, who works as a judicial assistant in the Ministry of Justice, was arrested, and the director of the office of the Minister of Commerce (formerly), who currently holds the position of Director General in the Ministry, was brought in.”
Integrity revealed that this network "received more than (3) million dollars in exchange for obtaining (forged) approvals for five plots of land belonging to the Ministry of Commerce."
