Committee member MP Kamel Aneed Al-Ugaili told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The procedures for shifting towards renewable energy are still weak due to red tape.”
He pointed out that "there is a tendency within the House of Representatives to approve the renewable energy law in the upcoming sessions," noting that "the draft law is currently being discussed within the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee."
The Ministry of Electricity announced earlier that it had concluded contracts with international companies regarding renewable energy projects, noting that these investment contracts are financed through international banks and will not cost the Ministry of Electricity any sums.
He continued that the Ministry is concerned with purchasing the energy produced through these projects, and the 2023 budget includes one of these projects and is awaiting its approval to begin establishing the first phase of the project.
