President Bafel Jalal Talabani recommended that all members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc go to Baghdad and participate in today’s session of the House of Representatives to vote on the draft law creating Halabja Governorate.
Jarro Hamma Sharif, a member of the National Union bloc in the House of Representatives, said during a press statement: “After several attempts to introduce the draft law for the creation of Halabja Governorate on the agenda of the House of Representatives for the third reading and voting on it, we faced opposition from some representatives and the draft prevented a vote on it.”
She added: "President Bafel Jalal Talabani visited Baghdad, the capital, last week and met with the leaders and political parties of the parliamentary blocs in the House of Representatives. He stressed the importance of approving the draft Halabja Governorate law for the Kurds and distinguishing this file from other topics. The Iraqi leaders agreed to the request and pledged to pass the project."
Jar Hama Sharif stated: “President Bafel Jalal Talabani directed, during his meeting with the National Union parliamentary bloc on the third day of the Fifth Conference, to leave the conference and go to the House of Representatives to work on passing a draft law for the creation of Halabja Governorate, with President Bafel Jalal Talabani having this file.” Because of the importance and service to the people of Halabja due to the sacrifices they made, we left the conference and are now in Baghdad to participate in today’s session of the House of Representatives.”
The Presidency of the Council included the draft law creating Halabja Governorate in the third paragraph of the House of Representatives’ agenda for voting on it, and the session is scheduled to begin at one o’clock this afternoon, Saturday.
