Parliamentary Committee: Food security will be achieved due to promising rainy season forecasts

{Local: Al-Furat News} A member of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee expressed his confidence that food security will be achieved this year with expectations of a rainy winter season.
Thaer al-Jubouri told {Al-Furat News} agency, “The Ministry of Water Resources announced its capabilities with the Ministry of Agriculture to work with the plan in the current season and reported one and a half million dunums of land irrigated by sea, and the cultivation of two million dunums irrigated by wells.”
He added, "There is good news from the weather forecast that the current season will be a rainy season, and that the current year is a wet year, and there will be enough rain to meet the need, and guaranteed areas will be added located on the rain line in the western and northern regions," noting that "the sum of these areas will be a number that ensures food security."
The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, announced on the 24th of last month that the agricultural plan for the next winter season will be on an area of six million and 500 thousand dunums, and it was approved in agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture .
The plan went into effect starting on the first of next October.
The Minister of Resources pointed out that "the plan included cultivating one million and 500 thousand dunums, depending on surface water, and four million dunums, depending on groundwater, in addition to one million and 100 thousand dunums of orchards that will be irrigated exclusively using regulated irrigation techniques."
