Baghdad: Muhammad Al-Ansari
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani called for the establishment of a fund to support and rebuild Gaza, stressing that Iraq will not delay in providing any possible assistance to the besieged Strip and rejects attempts to empty Gaza of its people. While he renewed Iraq’s principled position on the Palestinian issue, he stressed that it must stop. Dissolving the Palestinian issue and trying to bury it. No one has the right to reconcile, compromise, or donate on behalf of the Palestinian people, as the Palestinians are the owners of the land and the issue.
Iraq’s Speech
The Prime Minister said in his speech at the Cairo Peace Summit 2023, which was held yesterday, Saturday: “The Palestinian people are being subjected to a process of genocide by targeting civilians in residential complexes, churches and hospitals,” pointing out that “the Baptist Hospital massacre showed the true face of the Zionist occupation. And his intentions crossed all red lines.”
He continued: “It is a full-fledged war crime, which began with the killing of the defenseless and the imposition of a stifling siege on what remained of them alive. It is truly difficult to depict in words what is happening daily in terms of horrific acts that do not stop, massacres that do not stop, and the burial of innocents under the rubble of their homes on the land of their displacement.” The first days were the Nakba of 1948.
He stressed that “Gaza today constitutes a new test for the world order, which has failed several times in implementing the values of humanity, justice and freedom that it calls for, and Palestine is a living witness to this failure,” adding that “the time has come to put an end to this hateful occupation and stop the suffering of the people.” Palestinian.
He said: “Gaza today represents a new test for the world order, which has failed several times in implementing the values of humanity, justice and freedom it calls for, and Palestine was and continues to be a living witness to this failure.”
Al-Sudani addressed the leaders and representatives of the countries gathered at the summit, saying: “Isn’t it time to put an end to this hateful occupation? Is it not time for us to stop the suffering of this struggling, steadfast people? Which some friends describe in their words as terrorist acts! While the systematic destructive crimes of the Zionist occupation are self-defense! In accordance with international law.”
He added, “When do we acknowledge that injustice does not produce sustainable peace, and that there is no way to achieve security, stability, and end violence except by eliminating its causes, primarily the occupation and policies of racial discrimination?”
He stressed that “the Zionist entity today continues to violate laws, including the laws of war, which will affect international security and its sustainability. The conflict may extend regionally, threatening energy supplies to global markets, adding another burden to the burdens of global economic crises, and opening the door to deeper conflicts.” And wider.”
He continued: “Also, it (the Zionist entity) continues to violate the Third Geneva Convention regarding Prisoners of War, and the Fourth Convention that provides protection for civilians in the occupied territories, in addition to its violation of the International Covenant on Civil Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and more than seventy-eight Security Council resolutions related to With the Palestinian issue.”
He pointed out, “We are addressing consciences and minds, and saying: The Palestinian issue would not have reached these tragic conditions, if international resolutions had been respected, and if international bodies had assumed their responsibilities, and listened to a people who only ask to be granted their legitimate rights to self-determination, independence, and sovereignty.” ».
He stressed, “Iraq strongly rejects attempts to empty the Gaza Strip of its people, and there is absolutely no room for talk about resettlement, creating refugee camps, or other outdated calls, and there is no place for the Palestinians except their land.”
He stressed “the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, opening border crossings and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid and relief materials, and then working to ensure a safe and comprehensive exchange of prisoners and detainees.”
Al-Sudani said: “If we want the tragedy not to be repeated, efforts must be made to completely lift the siege on the Gaza Strip. In addition to that, we call for the establishment of a fund to support and reconstruct the Strip, and we, in Iraq, will not delay in providing any possible assistance.”
He added, “Above all, we point out the importance of stopping the dissolution of the Palestinian issue and trying to bury it, and that no one has the right to reconcile, compromise, or donate on behalf of the Palestinian people, as the Palestinians are the owners of the land and the issue.”
The Prime Minister stressed, “International legitimacy, and with it all free peoples who believe in justice and humanity across the earth, call and still call for a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, a state not torn apart by settlements, or humiliated by crossings and starvation policies.”
He added, “We must all realize that continuing to ignore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people only produces more violence and extremism, as well as more instability in the region and the world.”
He concluded by saying: “Mercy, contentment, and acceptance for the martyrs of Gaza, and all the martyrs of the Palestinian cause throughout time.”
Discussions with leaders:
Yesterday, Saturday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani held discussions with a number of leaders in order to mobilize Arab and international support to call on Iraq to declare an immediate ceasefire and lift the siege imposed on Gaza, during his participation in the Cairo Peace Summit.

The Prime Minister met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the European Union, the Jordanian King, and the Spanish Prime Minister.
In his meeting on the sidelines of the summit, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, the Prime Minister stressed the need to put an end to the ongoing Zionist aggression and the genocide to which the people of Gaza are subjected at the hands of the occupation forces, and to open humanitarian corridors to transport urgent aid, indicating Iraq’s readiness to send support and assistance convoys. To Gaza.
Al-Sudani expressed Iraq's readiness to communicate with all relevant countries and parties. To unify the position and reach agreed upon practical steps and present them to all countries of the world.
The Prime Minister also met with his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of the Cairo Summit 2023, and during the meeting, they discussed the current events in the Gaza Strip and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of the continued Israeli aggression in killing civilians and targeting their homes.
Al-Sudani said: What the Palestinians did is a natural result of years of siege, persecution and aggression practiced by the Zionist occupation forces, and led to the Palestinian people losing confidence in international institutions that were standing by and watching the violation of international laws and resolutions.
For his part, Sanchez thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts made by Iraq in this crisis, stressing the importance of continuing dialogue and communication among all in order to achieve peace, and expressing his country’s readiness to support Iraq’s efforts to calm the situation, especially the Iraqi initiative aimed at a ceasefire and lifting the siege on Gaza strip.
