The judge continued, “This electronic evidence constitutes one of the components of collecting criminal activities, as the evidence is considered very valuable tools for criminal investigative agencies, as it can be used as strong evidence to support legal allegations and necessary proofs.”

The judge explainedAhmed Muhammad Al-Maryani“Forensic science, or what is called forensic science, is a science that specializes in researching all the facts and information related to the crime, whether this evidence is present at the crime scene or not, while electronic forensic evidence is considered a branch of forensic science and deals with searching for data in Electronic devices, obtaining them and their transactions,” according to Al-Qadha newspaper.

Al-Maryani adds, “Electronic forensic evidence refers to evidentiary information that is stored or transmitted in digital form and that can be used in legal procedures. This evidence includes a wide range of digital information such as (electronic messages, audio and video files, websites, and social sites), in addition to numbered records.” related to users' movements and activities on the Internet.

Al-Maryani pointed out that “the expert’s mission in criminal matters is important, because he is a technical body with a judicial nature, as the expert is supposed to use his scientific and technical information, and in light of that, the inspection is carried out and we bring the results of his observations whenever they are,” pointing out that “criminal evidence is of great importance in quickly resolving criminal cases.” Because it contains influential evidence in the criminal case and is considered strong convincing evidence of the act committed by the perpetrator.”

Al-Maryani stated that "electronic crimes are committed by individuals known as cyber criminals who are characterized by intelligence and acumen, and that this evidence, as we mentioned, has an intangible electronic form that is not perceived by the senses. This is the most important characteristic of electronic evidence and distinguishes it from other evidence."

Regarding the difficulties that may hinder investigation procedures in cybercrimes, Al-Maryani explained that they “are represented by the ease of erasing and destroying evidence in a short period of time, as the perpetrator can destroy the evidence that exists against him so that the investigation agencies are unable to obtain it and detect the crime in a timely manner.”

Cybercrime is defined as criminal activity that targets and attempts to use a computer, computer network, or networked device. Most cybercrimes are committed by thieves or hackers who want to make money, and in other rare cases, the goal behind cybercrimes is to harm computers for reasons other than profit, and these reasons may be political or personal.

Cybercrimes can be committed by individuals or organizations. Some of these cybercriminals are organized, use advanced technologies and are highly technically skilled, while some are just novice hackers.

She noted that “the authority’s possession of a digital forensics laboratory makes it capable of tracking smuggled funds as a result of corruption crimes,” pointing to “the possibility of accessing information via smartphones and computers related to the commission of corruption crimes by wanted persons.”

She added, "The program also contributes to shortening time and distances, and helps the authority in its new policy aimed at making the government's program to combat corruption and recover smuggled funds a success."
