The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga, Lieutenant General Jabbar Yawar, confirmed today, Wednesday, that American forces had seized the Harir base in Erbil Governorate, noting that it had been allocated for their air operations.

Yawar said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “Harir base was established during the previous regime as an air base with a runway for landing aircraft and fortified places to house aircraft, as well as another military facility.”
He added, "After the American occupation of Iraq and the fall of the former regime, the American forces seized it and turned it into a specialized military base for special air operations."
He pointed out, "The base is an airport to which many military facilities have been added, and there is no information about the number and types of aircraft or the number of members inside the base, whether with the regional government or the federal government."
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga pointed out that "the base is exposed from time to time to attacks by aircraft and missiles by Iraqi resistance factions."
The Harir Air Base is located in the Harir district of Erbil Governorate, 115 kilometers from the Iraqi-Iranian border, where the base was previously known as the Başur Air Base.
Earlier yesterday, Tuesday, the Iraqi Islamic Resistance claimed responsibility for targeting the American occupation base, Harir, in northern Iraq, with two drones, two days after the visit of US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to Baghdad, amid demands not to expand the battlefield in the Middle East region.
