The Labor Committee and civil society organizations revealed that the disability and trade union laws will be voted on in the next legislative term, especially since the two laws are important and address two large segments of society.
Committee member, Jassim Al-Alawi, said in an interview: “One of the laws that the Labor Committee and civil society organizations have adopted and are working hard to approve is the Disability Law, as the Committee has adopted very important laws, and the Disability Law is one of them, which is at the gates of voting and has been postponed to the next legislative term.”
He explained that “the law was recently completed by the government, and it is one of the laws that sheds light on an important segment that suffers and has rights that require justice,” noting that “the law guarantees part of their rights to adjust the salary, travel and study benefits, job opportunities, and taking into account their inclusion according to entitlement.”
He continued, “One of the most important points in this law is that it gives the disabled the right to collect two salaries, the salary of the appointed person and his salary, and the amount may reach 270 thousand,” pointing out that “an option was left to the government in the event that its financial situation improves, to increase their salaries.”
He pointed out that “there is another law, which is the Trade Union Law, which is influential in the Iraqi economic situation and complements other laws, and gives the representatives of the workers’ segment an influential and regulating role in the progress and work of the government, in addition to that it will compete with the state in respecting the rights of workers, especially since the current law is very old.” It needs many modifications.”
Al-Alawi added, “The House of Representatives is awaiting the government’s response to sending the law, and if it does not respond, a draft resolution proposed by the House of Representatives will be sent to the government, so that a quick solution can be found to proceed with its approval.”
