    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The former representative of the "New Generation" movement, Yusra Rajab, confirmed today, Saturday (November 18, 2023), that the absence of a legislative role has increased operations of "corruption and theft" in the Kurdistan region.
Rajab said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the absence of a supervisory and legislative role represented by dissolving the regional parliament and provincial councils has increased cases of corruption and reduced the implementation of service projects.”
She pointed out that "the ruling parties in Kurdistan did not respect the legislative authority, were not subject to the supervisory departments and councils, and had very large economic files."
She stressed, "The absence of a legislative role has reduced the implementation of service projects," adding, "Today we see the bad reality in the cities of the region, where there is a shortage of electricity supply hours, problems with water supply, floods, and others."
On September 24, the Federal Supreme Court decided to terminate the work of the governorate councils of the Kurdistan region of Iraq due to the end of their electoral cycle.
According to an official statement from the court received by “Baghdad Today,” it “ruled that Article (2) of Law No. (2) of 2019 to the First Amendment Law of the Governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq No. (3) of 2009 was unconstitutional due to its violation of the provisions of Articles (2/First/B) C) and (6) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005 pursuant to the ruling issued by No. (124/Federal/2023) on 9/24/2023.”
While the President of the Federal Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, announced on (May 30, 2023) that the court ruled that the decision issued in 2022 to extend the work of the Kurdistan Parliament for a year was unconstitutional, and indicated that it undermines democracy in the country.
