The Najaf Investment Authority has prepared a plan that will be implemented next year, to provide low-cost housing units for people with limited incomes with an area of 200 square meters at a price of 50 million dinars, declaring its contribution to solving 50 percent of the housing crisis in the governorate.
The head of the authority, Dr. Durgham Kiko, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The authority has so far granted 40 investment licenses in the residential sector, distributed between the governorate’s center and its districts and suburbs, adding that the number of units completed and delivered to beneficiaries has reached 20 thousand, while there is a similar number under completion and delivery.
He stated that the authority’s contribution to meeting the governorate’s need for housing units exceeded 50 percent, with its need for them reaching 75,000 by the year 2025, indicating that the authority has set, in its future plan, the completion of another 30,000 during the next year, pointing out that the authority took into account growth. The governorate's growing population, therefore, has prepared a plan for the residential sector extending to the year 2030, which will meet its needs for units.
As for low-cost housing units, Kiko stated that his department approached land-owning departments to obtain sites close to services and infrastructure in the governorate, to reduce the costs of low-cost housing projects, which will enable it to impose a price on the investor that suits those with limited incomes, revealing that the authority is preparing a plan that will be implemented. During the next year, to provide housing units with an area of 200 square meters at a price of 50 million dinars, to be paid in convenient installments to the beneficiaries.
