Today, Saturday (December 9, 2023), member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Rebin Salam, revealed international and regional mediations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Salam told "Baghdad Today" that "international mediation succeeded earlier in resolving many crises between Baghdad and Erbil in various fields."
He added, "The ambassadors and consuls of major countries and even the United Nations envoy always play a prominent role in solving complex problems between the federal government and the regional government, the most important of which are oil and gas files, salaries, and others."
Salam pointed out that “the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, to a meeting of ambassadors and consuls falls under this premise, with the aim of finding a solution to the problem of salaries and the financial crisis and not approving the Kurdistan region’s share of the budget.”
The problems between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government have worsened recently due to employee salaries and the region’s share of the financial budget, as the disputes developed into depriving the region’s employees of salaries for more than three months, which prompted employees to demonstrate in the streets of Sulaymaniyah, demanding that their salaries be sent at times and that salaries be linked directly to Baghdad at other times. .
The Kurdistan Regional Government justifies not delivering salaries to employees by saying that Baghdad did not send the agreed upon amounts, to which Baghdad responded by saying that the region did not deliver the agreed-upon oil imports to Baghdad.”
Last Thursday (December 7, 2023), the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, received, at a special dinner on the occasion of the approaching Christmas and New Year, a number of ambassadors and consuls of countries, their envoys and diplomats accredited to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
In his speech during the dinner, regarding the controversial issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, the Prime Minister indicated the need to resolve those issues on the basis of the constitution and respect for the rights of the people of Kurdistan.
