{Economic: Al-Furat News} Government data for five years from 2019 to 2023 revealed that the state’s total revenues amounted to 569 trillion dinars.
The data indicates that the government spent 516 trillion dinars during these five years, including 71.1 trillion dinars as investment expenses in various sectors.
Expenses were distributed according to a spreadsheet, largely on salaries, which amounted to 41%, followed by social care, which represented 20%, then debt service, which amounted to 13.78%, then grants, interest, and subsidies, which represented 13% of the total expenses.
Iraq achieved a surplus of 53 trillion dinars during the past five years
It is expected that the Iraqi state's expenditure bill until 2030 will reach 119 trillion dinars, with an increase in salaries and social care rates, and that the state's total revenues will reach 111 trillion dinars in 2030, with the continuation of the normal situation of oil prices within the current rates.
The jump in oil prices more than a year ago came to save Iraq from stifling economic and financial crises, and to extricate it from the predicament of the trend toward borrowing, depletion of cash reserves, and worsening of the budget deficit.

Iraq needs $6 billion monthly to secure operational expenses, which includes the salaries of civilian employees, the army, and security services, in addition to the social welfare network and retirees, which amount to approximately 9 million monthly salaries.
It is noteworthy that at the end of the year 2020, Iraq witnessed a large financial deficit, which resulted in the government’s delay in paying employees’ salaries due to the decline in oil prices to their lowest rate.
The country depends on about 90% of oil revenues to secure the budget.
