Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Members of the British Parliament listened in a closed session to British MP Neil Halvey from the Alba Party, in which he revealed a secret document dating back to 1998 confirming that Tony Blair was determined to take military action against Iraq contrary to legal advice, saying that it should be stripped of... Tony Blair received a knighthood awarded to him by former Queen Elizabeth for his decision to lead the country into war.
The British website GB News quoted MP Halvey as saying that the medal awarded to the former British Prime Minister is an insult to all the lives that were lost during the invasion.
He added that the declassified documents dating back to 1998 show that Tony was determined to carry out military action against Iraq, contrary to legal advice, so how can a prime minister who fought two wars against legal advice and instructions be rewarded with the rank of knight?
He continued that governments should not lie in order to go to war and must now tell the truth, indicating that the consequences of the invasion were devastating to the Iraqis who suffered from the scourge of the invasion led by Bush and Blair.
The report stated that the documents showed that Tony Blair rejected legal objections to the bombing campaign he carried out in 1998, and this was a direct precursor to his position on the invasion of Iraq five years later in 2003, which the Secretary-General of the United Nations at the time, Kofi Annan, also considered illegal.
The British MP explained that in both cases, in 1998 and 2003, we know that Tony Blair received legal advice warning that military action was illegal, and in both cases he ignored that legal advice and proceeded to allow the deployment of British service members, noting that the consequences were devastating for the Iraqis. For the region, for military personnel and their families, the lives lost in the theater of war are well understood, but the lives destroyed by the trauma of conflict are not easily counted, and yet they are every bit real. The consequences of the invasion of Iraq live with us and resonate with us to this day.
