Today, Friday, the Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed the implementation of legal measures against those who did not adhere to the electoral silence that began at six in the morning on Friday.
A member of the media team of the Election Commission, Al-Hassan Qabas, said in a press statement: “The Commission’s monitoring teams deployed in Baghdad and the governorates, in cooperation with the Baghdad Municipality and municipal departments, to monitor any violations during the electoral silence period that began at six in the morning today.” Yesterday, Thursday, the head of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Moayyed, announced the formation of the central operations room to support media institutions and monitor their performance during electoral silence and voting days in local elections, while calling on those institutions to exercise their national role in supporting the electoral experience and strengthening democracy in the country. The Independent High Electoral Commission had set Friday morning as the date for the start of electoral silence for the local elections, which will begin tomorrow, Saturday, with special voting, while the general elections will begin next Monday.
