    Alsumaria News - Special

The Turkish government’s announcement of exempting a number of citizens of the Gulf states from entry visas for tourism purposes, and excluding Iraq from that, caused controversy in popular and media circles, especially since Iraq is a neighboring country to Iraq and enjoys huge trade exchange with Turkey amounting to more than 10 billion dollars. Annually, in addition to the fact that Iraqis are at the forefront of the people residing and who go for tourism in Turkey.

Turkish media announced today, Sunday, that Turkish President [url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/Entity/106029/%D8%B1%D8%AC%D8%A8 %D8%B7%D9%8A%D8%A8 %D8%A3%D8%B1%D8%AF%D9%88%D8%BA%D8%A7%D9%86/ar/]Recep Tayyip Erdogan[/url] had signed a presidential decree exempting citizens of 6 countries from entry visas during their visits for tourist purposes. The countries included the United States of America, Canada, the Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the Sultanate of Oman, and exempting them from entry visas to Turkey. On visits for tourist purposes.

The exemption decision includes citizens of the aforementioned countries who hold a regular passport, provided that this visa is granted for 90 days out of every 180 days.

However, perhaps the latest Turkish decision is not strange, as it comes in the context of reports, numbers, and information coming from Turkey about the extent to which this country has turned into a “repellant of Iraqis.” The number of Iraqis leaving Turkey during 2022 is the largest recorded number of departures of one nationality.

The Turkish Statistical Service, which was followed by Alsumaria News, shows that the number of Iraqis residing in Turkey has been on the rise since 2012, as the number of Iraqis residing in Turkey at that time reached more than 19 thousand residents, and the number continued to rise annually until it reached more than 2019. 313 thousand residents in Turkey.
In 2020, the number of residents recorded the first decline throughout the past decade, as the number of Iraqis residing in Turkey decreased to 281 thousand residents, a decrease of more than 32 thousand residents, and then the number returned to rise in 2021 to more than 322 thousand residents.

But in 2022, the largest decrease in the number of Iraqis residing in Turkey was recorded, to 275 thousand residents, a decrease of more than 47 thousand residents, which is the largest recorded decrease in the number of Iraqis in Turkey since 2012.

According to the United Nations, the number of Iraqi immigrants is more than 750,000 immigrants, which means that about 37% of Iraqi immigrants live in[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]On the other hand, the number of foreign residents in...[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]There are one million and 823 thousand residents, which means that more than 15% of foreign residents in[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]They are Iraqis.

While the number of Iraqis reached[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]275 thousand in 2022, their number by the end of 2023 in total reached more than 190 thousand, a decrease of 85 thousand residents, that is, a decrease of 30%, according to the reports of the Turkish Immigration Department, which I followed.”[url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/Entity/133473/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%88%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%A9 %D9%86%D9%8A%D9%88%D8%B2/ar/]Alsumaria News[/url]".

If it is calculated as a whole, the number of Iraqis residing in[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]It decreased from 2021 to 2023 by 60%, which reflects the volume of Iraqis leaving the country .[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]With the narrowing and tightening of Turkish measures towards the Iraqis, and Syrians as well, such as complicating the issue of obtaining residency and arresting and deporting people whose residence permits expire.

Information and reports indicate that the reasons for the restrictions were due to the economic crisis, as the Turks consider that the Iraqis and Syrians have restricted their job opportunities and also caused inflation and high prices, especially the large purchasing power of Iraqi immigrants and other nationalities.
