    Economy News - Baghdad
    On Monday, the Ministerial Council for the Economy issued two decisions regarding fish farms and winter crops.
    The media office of the Ministerial Council for the Economy said in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fouad Hussein chaired the first session of 2024 for the Ministerial Council for the Economy in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Planning, the Ministers of Finance, Trade, Agriculture, Labor, and Social Affairs, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq.” The Chairman of the Securities Commission, the Prime Minister’s advisors for economic and legal affairs, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil.”
    He added, "The Council discussed the items on its agenda and took the appropriate decisions regarding them," pointing out that "The Council hosted the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the submitted paper on studying methods for supporting the agricultural sector in all its aspects, because this sector is of great importance in supporting the Iraqi economy."
    He pointed out that "the Council hosted the director of the Karbala Refinery and a number of officials in this project in order to discuss and support this important project to reach its full and safe operation," noting that "the Council decided to exempt fish farm owners from rent allowances for the years after 2019, at a rate of 50% who... Their projects were damaged due to water scarcity and work stopped, with the exception of those who were compensated from the exemption.”
    He explained, "The Council decided to direct the Border Ports and Customs Authority to set a time period to return consignments that do not conform to specifications and failed inspection and re-export them within thirty days, and to inform the Council of that," pointing out that "The Council decided to prevent the import of winter crops and open the import of parchment and cucumber crops."
