Shafaq News/ Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein expected that Iraq would receive international support from members of the Security Council after filing a complaint against Iran regarding the ballistic missile attacks it launched on the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, on Monday night into Tuesday, resulting in four casualties and the wounding of 6 others. .
Hussein said in an interview with the American CNN channel, “When there is tension between Washington and Tehran, the Iraqis pay the price, and the fighting takes place on Iraqi soil,” adding, “Now the tension between the Israelis and the Iranians is also the same, and for this reason the Iranians do not They want, or cannot, to attack Israel, then they look for victims around and attack Erbil.”
He added, "We condemn these attacks, and consider them aggression, against international law, and a violation of international law. Therefore, we took various measures and also went to the Security Council in New York."
Regarding the position of the member states in the Security Council regarding the complaint submitted by Iraq, Hussein said: I believe that there will be great support for the Iraqi position against Iran, stressing that “Iran is isolated from the world. If Iraq goes to the Security Council, and Iraq is considered an ally of Iran, this will create "A big problem inside Tehran."
Iraq submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council and the United Nations, on Tuesday, December 16, regarding the Iranian missile “aggression” that targeted the city of Erbil and led to innocent civilian casualties, injury to others, and damage to public and private property, according to what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in statement.
The Ministry said in its statement that it had filed a complaint in accordance with two identical letters to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the UN Security Council through the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Iraq in New York, in which it confirmed that this aggression is a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of the Iraqi people.
On Monday night into Tuesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched a violent bombardment with ballistic missiles targeting civilian areas in the city of Erbil, which led to 10 civilians being killed or wounded.
Yesterday morning, Tuesday morning, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad, Abu al-Fadl Azizi, and handed him a note of protest against the missile bombardment launched by the Revolutionary Guard on areas in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
The Ministry also summoned the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran, Naseer Abdul Mohsen, "for the purpose of consultation against the backdrop of the recent Iranian attacks on Erbil, which led to the fall of a number of martyrs and wounded."
