The United States announced that American exports to Iraq reached a record level in 2023 that had not been reached in more than 12 years, as the value of US exports to Iraq amounted to 2.25 billion US dollars, an increase of 151% from 2022, which was worth 900 million dollars.
This increase came as a result of the increase in the value of United States exports of aircraft, aircraft parts, and their spare materials, as the value of United States exports to Iraq of these goods amounted to 815 million dollars, compared to 47 million dollars in 2022, according to the head of the “Iraq Foundation.” Al-Mustaqbal” for economic studies and consultations, Manar Al-Obaidi.
The value of the United States of America’s exports of automobiles, their parts, and spare materials also increased to reach $361 million, compared to a value of $117 million in 2022. The United States’ exports of mechanical devices, electrical power plants, their accessories, and their spare materials also increased to reach a value of $266 million, after being $117 million. In 2022, only 195 million US dollars.
United States exports of wheat grains increased to reach $248 million in 2023 after being worth $110 million in 2022, and the value of meat exported to Iraq increased to reach $39 million after its value in 2022 was $10.7 million, according to Al-Obaidi.
On the other hand, the value of Iraq's exports to the United States of America decreased to reach 8.5 billion US dollars in 2023, while the value of Iraq's exports to the United States of America in 2022 was worth 10 billion US dollars. This decrease came as a result of the decline in oil prices in 2023 compared to 2022.
Despite the increase in American exports to Iraq, the value of trade exchange between Iraq and the United States of America in 2023 decreased from 2022 as a result of the decline in oil prices, bringing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries to a value of 10.7 billion US dollars, after it was worth 10.9 billion US dollars in 2022.
It is noteworthy that the highest value of the volume of trade exchange between the United States of America and Iraq was in 2008, when the value of trade exchange between the two countries at that time was 24 billion dollars, and the volume of exchange decreased with the decline in the quantities of oil exported to the United States of America.
Thus, the United States of America occupies the sixth trading partner of Iraq after the United Arab Emirates, China, Turkey, Iran and India, according to Al-Obaidi.
