    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Ministry of Agriculture is moving to invest scientific results, modern technologies, and artificial intelligence in developing agricultural production in quantity and quality.
The advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Mahdi Al-Qaisi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that in light of the increase in the world’s population, concerns have accumulated regarding providing food security as a result of several problems, including climate change, drought, desertification, and the shrinkage of arable areas, in addition to pollution. Water or soil.
He added that the use of artificial intelligence, as well as digital agriculture, is being adopted as an alternative for the purpose of providing a suitable environment to increase production in quantity and quality through the use of these technologies, indicating that investment in developing agricultural machinery and equipment through artificial intelligence is often based on speed of achievement and lack of effort, whether using fuel. Or matters related to sustainability, whether used in agricultural operations, watering, irrigation, or pest control.
Al-Qaisi continued that food manufacturing and agricultural marketing, which is achieved through these technologies and artificial intelligence, has benefits, and the best example of this is the farmer who used to rely on irrigation technologies, whether irrigating by irrigation or through traditional irrigation methods, but today the matter has reached the stage where there is sensitivity to the soil. And its humidity, in addition to the plant’s need for irrigation based on this sensor or sensitivity, after which the process of pumping water to the plant begins for the purpose of rationing and not adding excess water. Scientific development in agricultural operations has reached the use of artificial intelligence and “drone” techniques in the issue of soil fertility surveying as well as combating Agricultural pests and diseases.
He stated that the use of artificial intelligence and digital agriculture provides data, information and communications technology, and environmental systems data to make the agricultural process economical, sustainable, and based on high speed and economy of time, as robot and drone technology combine with one factor, which is increasing production as well as quality, and preserving the product from damage and deterioration.
He pointed out that there is a wide scope to increase production and meet consumer needs, in addition to shifting from fossil and electrical energies to alternative or clean energies, and this trend is complementary to the process of digital agriculture and artificial intelligence, stressing that the world is moving towards using these modern technologies, in addition to technologies that increase Productivity, such as the use of hydroponics, which relies on a limited amount of water and is characterized by high productivity and better specifications throughout the year, unlike the well-known traditional agriculture, which includes growing plants in specific seasons, such as strategic crops and vegetables.
Al-Qaisi pointed out that the applications of artificial intelligence are not limited to plants, but also include animals. An example of this is the spread of fish farming in a closed system, which increases the productivity of fish with a small unit of area, where the conditions that suit production are controlled. He expressed his hope to invest in the scientific results achieved globally for the purpose of developing Local agriculture, both plant and animal, as well as food industries and agricultural marketing, and we have automation and modern technologies so that we can reduce waste and loss from the seed stage to the consumption stage.
