The security expert, retired Major General Imad Allo, confirmed today, Sunday (March 24, 2024), that revealing the “extortion network” within the security institution will reduce the citizen’s confidence in this institution.
Alo told “Baghdad Today” that “it is beyond doubt that revealing the (extortion network) within the security institution will reduce the citizen’s confidence in this institution,” stressing that “the network and those involved in it represent an insult to the military rank and this matter has negative consequences for the security.” society and the security services.
Alou added, “Military rank does not grant immunity to those holding it from accountability and punishment,” stressing that, “Those involved in the blackmail network will be held accountable.”
He stressed that "everyone harmed by this network can file lawsuits against these officers, and the public right remains, and the penalty for them may reach expulsion from service."
On Saturday (March 23, 2024), the leader of the Azm Alliance, Haider Al-Mulla, commented on the involvement of officers in electronic blackmail, stressing that it was a “pre-prepared agenda.”
Al-Mulla said in a blog post on the “X” website, followed by “Baghdad Today,” that “an agenda was prepared in advance after the occupation in 2003, the title of which is to weaken the military and security establishment,” adding, “And what happened to the Iraqi army was only the point of starting it.”
Al-Mulla added, “Today we are witnessing a new chapter in the series of targeting, entitled the involvement of officers of various ranks in electronic blackmail,” stressing that “the treatments are wrong, even if the incident is true, we doubt it because it affects the history and reputation of the military institution, and the beneficiary is the escaped weapon.”
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief, Major General Yahya Rasoul, announced on Wednesday (March 20, 2024) the referral of officers involved in extortion to investigation.
Rasoul said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “according to the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and through careful follow-up of any action that affects the reputation of the military and security institution, and after forming an investigative committee headed by the Minister of Interior and membership of the head of the National Security Service and the military inspector of the Ministry of Defense, we have reached Investigations led to identifying members of a network within the institution that works on using social networking sites (pages under pseudonyms) to blackmail the security institution and insult its symbols, in addition to blackmailing officers and associates and bargaining with them.”
He added, "This committee decided to refer the officers involved in this illegal act to the command, and to continue the necessary legal procedures and complete investigations against them."
Rasoul called on "all workers in military and security joints and formations to stay away from such actions that harm the work in these ancient institutions, their history and their lamentations, and not to be drawn into actions and actions that are far removed from the essence of the work of the security forces and the duties entrusted to them."
