The Commission suspends the Kurdistan Parliament's voting procedures

The Board of Commissioners decided, yesterday, Wednesday, to suspend voting procedures in the Kurdistan region.
A statement by the Council stated, “It discussed the decision of the Federal Supreme Court No. (126/Federal State Order 2024) on 5/7/2024, which included issuing a state order to stop the implementation of Clause (Second) of Article (2) of the system for registering lists of candidates, and the ratified For the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections No. (7) of 2024, which stipulates that the Kurdistan Regional Parliament shall consist of (100) seats distributed among the electoral districts (Erbil Governorate, 34 seats), Sulaymaniyah Governorate, 38 seats, Dohuk Governorate, 25 seats. Halabja Governorate (3) seats until the case is resolved.”
He continued, “The decisions of the Federal Court are final and binding on all authorities based on the text of Article (94) of the Iraqi Constitution, and since stopping the implementation of this article depends on implementing all technical and financial procedures related to the allocation Devices, printing ballot papers and sensitive forms, the work of the examining company and the rest of the technical procedures, and implementing the operational timetable for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.”
He pointed out that “after deliberation among the members of the Board of Commissioners, it was decided to suspend work on the technical and financial procedures for the 2024 Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament elections until the pending lawsuit is resolved.” Before the Federal Supreme Court No. (126/Federal/2024).
