    MP Alia Nassif revealed that she had submitted a request to open an investigation into funds transferred through the currency sales window to purchase gold and precious metals.

    Nassif said in a tweet on the "X" platform, "We submitted a request to the head of the National Security Agency and the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control to open an investigation into the sources of the funds that were transferred through the currency sale window to buy gold and precious metals during 2024."


     
    She added, "We asked them to verify the validity of the procedures at customs and the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control, as well as to verify the sales operations in the markets and who are the real beneficiaries of buying gold, as there is confirmed information that the reason for the increase in dollar sales to the window is the import of large quantities of gold and the loss of the buyer."
     
    Nassif pointed out that "this gold is not sold in the markets, but rather it is remelted and smuggled out of Iraq, taking advantage of the difference between the official and parallel exchange rates, in addition to legitimizing money obtained through corruption," adding, "This is how the national economy is being damaged, and the victim is the ordinary citizen who cannot find his daily bread."
