    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Baghdad Municipality denied, on Friday, August 16, 2024, what was circulated on some social media sites regarding the transfer of Al-Zawraa Park and the conversion of its current location into residential complexes.
A statement by the Secretariat, received by "Baghdad Today", stated, "We deny and condemn the rumors and what was circulated on some social media sites about granting approvals to establish residential complexes in Al-Zawraa Park."
The statement stressed that "this information is false, as Al-Zawraa Park is one of the most important recreational places in the capital, Baghdad, and the Secretariat will not approve any activity that violates it, as it is the largest recreational outlet frequented by Iraqi families from inside and outside the city of Baghdad."
He said, "There is a comprehensive plan prepared by the Baghdad Municipality to develop the closed part of Al-Zawraa Park and create new recreational activities to be added to the park's current activities."
The statement pointed out that "there is follow-up and guidance to all departments of the Baghdad Municipality by the Mayor of Baghdad to increase green spaces in the capital and transform all abandoned squares and spaces into lush gardens, recreational places and public parks."
Al-Zawraa Park or Al-Zawraa Garden is a public park located in the Karkh side of the city of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. Its location was previously an army camp until it was converted into an investment to become Al-Zawraa Park.
To the east of Al-Zawraa is Al-Salihiya district, to the west is Al-Harithiya district, to the south is Al-Qadisiyah complex, to the southeast is Karada Maryam, and to the north is Baghdad International Station.
The park covers an area of 3 square kilometres. It was established in the early 1970s on an original area of 750 dunums. During the 1980s, 300 dunums were cut off to create the celebration square.
In the past years, there were rumors that Al-Zawraa Park and Gardens would be referred for investment and converted into a residential complex, with the Baghdad Municipality repeatedly denying it.
