The Prime Minister's Advisor for Financial and Economic Affairs, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, confirmed that there is a clear growth in non-oil revenues during 2024, while counting the amount of government spending annually.
Salih said that "government spending to cover salaries, pensions and social care amounts to 7.5 trillion dinars, equivalent to nearly 90 trillion dinars annually, of which 60 to 62 trillion are salaries, and the remaining 30 trillion or less are for pensions and social care."
He added that "this comprehensiveness means that every family has a monthly salary, and the matter falls within the economic goals and distributive justice of the government's financial policy, as salaries, wages, pensions and social care allocations are a first priority in public spending and are secured under the spending priorities in the federal general budget."
Al-Sudani's advisor indicated that "there are tangible positive indicators showing an increase in non-oil revenues for the year 2024 compared to previous years, taking record levels."
He added, “This development is due to two important factors, one of which is the broad implementation of government policies in the field of public finance reform, which calls for raising the contribution to 20% of annual revenues,” indicating that “the second factor stems from the importance of implementing e-governance operations, especially digital service systems, in cooperation and technical and organizational assistance provided with the financial and commercial institutions affiliated with the United Nations, in replacing digital applications at border crossings and customs sites.”
He pointed out that “the development of oil and non-oil revenues (at the semi-annual level) between 2023 and 2024 showed a distinctive growth. While oil revenues (semi-annual) for last year amounted to 53.88 trillion dinars, and non-oil revenues amounted to about 0.42 trillion dinars (during the six months of the same year 2023), we find, in contrast, that oil revenues in the first half of 2024 amounted to 58.80 trillion dinars, while non-oil revenues (at the end of the first half of 2024) rose to reach 7.18 trillion dinars.
