The Turkish Statistical Authority announced today, Thursday, that Iraqis advanced to third place among foreigners who purchased Turkish real estate during the month of September, after being in fifth place in the previous month.
The authority said in a report seen by "Al-Eqtisad News" that housing sales to foreigners decreased by 31.0% last September compared to the same month in 2023, as the share of home sales to foreigners amounted to 1.45 of total home sales last month. The provinces that recorded the highest number of home sales to foreigners were Istanbul with 783 homes, Antalya with 548 homes, and Mersin with 210 homes.
The authority indicated that "Russians topped the rest of the countries in purchasing the most real estate in Turkey during the month of September with 346 homes, while Iranians came in second place with 163 homes, Iraqis came in third place with 139 homes, then Germans came in fourth place with 113 homes, Ukrainians came in fifth place with 97 homes, Azerbaijan came in sixth place with 87 homes, Kazakhstan came in seventh place with 87 homes, and Kuwait came in eighth place with 73 homes."
Iraqis have been at the top of the list of countries buying homes in Turkey since 2015, but their ranking dropped to second place after Iran at the beginning of 2021, before falling to third place since April 2022 after Russia’s dominance of Turkish real estate.
